The Probate Court can order the involuntary commitment of an alleged mentally ill person into a hospital. A person with mental illness may be committed if the following conditions apply: the person is dangerous to self; the person is dangerous to others; the person risks injury to self by not providing basic needs; the person would benefit from treatment in a hospital for mental illness.
